Dreamcatcher 'Scarlet Gilia' & Feather

Dreamcatcher 'Scarlet Gilia' & Feather by Burneta Venosdel, Pastel, 6 x 6

Scarlet Gilia is bright red and scarce to find in the mountains yet I found this group of plants on a day trip in the mountains near our home. As we stopped to take pictures of the wildflowers I saw these gilia along a hillside and when I looked closer, I saw a feather caught in base of the flowers. Native Americans make 'dreamcatchers' of willow hoops which are woven web, replicating a spider's web. They may be decorated with sacred items and feathers. They are made to protect. I was reminded of a 'Dreamcatcher'. The Scarlet Gilia was the web on this day.
