Red, Quirkey Turkey

'Ole Red' was quit the ambassador and greeter at the 'Cowboys and Angels Resort' near Kerrville. Myself and several of my artist friends got to see and enjoy this magnificent bird. as he strutted around the grounds, patrolling and protecting his flock of special chickens. Oh, he had girlfriends in the beginning, but the coyotes were clever and finished off the last of the ladies who was setting a nest on my last visit. 

He would hear us talking on the porch or coming down the driveway and he always came to greet us. He was a special Bourbon Red  Turkey, a rare breed of the heritage turkey, being developed in Pennsylvania. 

'Ole Red' was rare in many other ways and will always hold a special place in my heart and memory.
