Harold Koppitz, my Dad's first cousin was the last of the true cowboys of his generation. He was a horse trader, story teller, champion roper and mentor of the Rodeo Team at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. He was also a good friend to Ben 'Son' Johnson, actor. This sculpture, 'Rein Maker' was inspired by the recycling of the throw-away lariats of the Rodeo Team. Lariats were untwisted, re-braided into headstalls, belts and reins and given back to the young ropers.
