'Goat' is a real live mountain man, living in south central Colorado. I met 'Goat' on our vacation to Colorado this past October. The minute I saw him, I knew he was a perfect subject that I needed to sculpt.
'Tallgrass Warriors' is sculpture consisting of two pieces. It can be purchased as a set or as two individuals. The closeup on the right, is called 'Tallgrass Challenger' is 13"x12"x10". The other is called 'Ruffled Feathers'.
This sculpture was inspired when we lived in the Osage many years ago and could hear the booming of the Prairie Chickens, during the breeding season. This sculpture is the prelude to the mating of the Prairie Chicken, usually in March, when the males gather in the 'lech' to fight for the breeding right and carry on the best genes.
The Tallgrass Prairie is one of the areas that the birds have lived for thousands of years and their numbers and habitat is dwindling. The George Miksch Sutton Avian Research Center near Bartlesville, Oklahoma is working to re-establish these birds. Special Thanks to them and their staff for helping me in this research for this sculpture.
