Rein Maker, 13"x20"x13", edition 10, was inspired by my Dad's first cousin Harold, one of the real cowboys in 'our neck of the woods'. He was a good friend of Ben Johnson, the actor, who would come through northwestern Oklahoma to go coyote hunting and blow of steam after making a western or filming in Hollywood or on location. Harold would take the lariats of the rodeo team at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, whom he mentored, and remake them into headstall, belts, collars, and reins. He would re-cycle the snagged or soiled ropes, unbraid them and then re-braid, add clips, buckles or hardware and give them back to the ropers.
