Ruffled Feathers, Bronze, limited edition 13x10x8
'Ruffled Feathers', was inspired by fighting Prairie Chickens on the Plains. Several years earlier I had viewed film produced on the Barnett Ranch near Dexter Kansas, where these birds were captured by the Wildlife Department of Colorado to be transplanted in Colorado to replenish dwindling populations. These birds fight for breeding rights in lech' areas they may travel several miles to compete on. This is only one part of the breeding process of these birds. Booming grounds are the areas where the males strut and vie for the female affections. They have bright yellow sacs that expand and make a sound when air is expelled. They dance around and thump the ground. It is one of the most beautiful courtships.
