Tallgrass Warriors, bronze, 19x, edition 13, inspired by Prairie Chickens in the Osage. Tallgrass Warriors was inspired by the capture, and redistribution of the dwindling birds in Colorado. Several Years ago, on a ranch in northern Oklahoma, belonging to my husband's family, birds were captured on his ranch and transplanted to Colorado. Interest was rekindled when I began sculpting and the populations in Oklahoma started dwindling. An art competition trip to Nebraska and trip to the Tallgrass Prairie, near Lincoln, spiked my interest in creating a sculpture of the Greater Prairie Chickens.
The George Miksch Sutton Center Avian Research Center, Southeast of Bartlesville Oklahoma is researching and collecting eggs, in an effort to artificially inseminate and repopulate areas of declining populations. The staff was a great resource for collecting information about these birds. A special Thanks to the Sutton Center.
Sculpture is available through my galleries.
